For the 6th year running, Châteauneuf-du-Pape celebrates the Fête Nationale de la Gastronomie by organising a big harvest picnic on Saturday 23 September 2017 from 9.30am to 3pm…
The harvest picnic is a special time when wine connoisseurs and simple wine lovers are welcome in an estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape –a different one each year- in order to embark on a fun and friendly experience… where they might also learn a few family secrets…
This year, upon their arrival at the Clos du Caillou in the village of Courthézon, the participants will be greeted with a coffee while Marilou Vacheron will provide some information on the unusual history of her estate, a former hunting lodge that became an iconic Clos of the southern Rhône Valley. They will receive a few recommendations before heading to the vineyards and taking part in the harvest.
While part of the group will cut the grapes, the other half will enjoy a small in-situ conference on geology and terroir and landscape interpretation workshop with oeno-geologist Georges Truc.
At noon, everyone will gather to visit the wine-making cellars and sample the wines of the Clos du Caillou made by their wine-maker Bruno Gaspard, before sitting around a few large tables and enjoying a lunch made by local caterer Bruno Biscarel, from Courthézon.
