One of the oldest estates in the appellation, the property was already listed in the land register at the end of the 16th Century.
The Château de Nalys enjoys an exceptional position in the heart of the appellation opposite the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and its famous Papal Palace. With its sixty hectares, this lovely property is made up of three similar-sized plots: “Nalys” in the area of “Grand Pierre”, home to red sandstone soils of Comtat and saffres; “Bois Sénéchal” (official lieu-dit “Seneseau”); and the famous terroir of “La Crau”. The latter two plots are endowed with ancient stony alluvium soils and the famous pebbles of the Rhône region, the “galets”.
Since the 16th century, the thirteen varietals have been rigorously cultivated at the Château de Nalys. This diversity is one of the elements which makes the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation unique both historically and on a technical level. The white wines of Nalys are produced mainly from Grenache Blanc and Roussanne, with the addition of Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picardan and Piquepoul bringing harmony and a complex palette of aromas. The red wines of Nalys are produced mainly from Grenache, with Syrah playing an important role. In addition, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Cinsault, Terret Noir and Muscardin bring complexity to the development of these precious bottles.
