The estate of Manissy, built in the middle of the 18th century, belongs to the Congregation of Missionary Fathers of the Holy Family. It was them who planted the first vines in 1916. The used to work their land and their wines with biodynamic methods. The special Tavel “Tête de Cuvée” they produced was appreciated by rosé-connoisseurs and used as mass-wine during religious offices;
Time gone by, the fathers have grown old…
A young winemaker, Florian ANDRE took over in 2004, chosen by the fathers themselves. He carries on the traditionnal way of winemaking for the “Tête de Cuvée” but modernized the cellar and developed new products to broaden our range. Moreover, our wines are going to be certified organic in 2012 (upcoming harvest).
At present, we produce 2 kinds of Tavel, one red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, two different red Lirac, white, rosé and red Côtes-du-Rhône and a Vin de Pays du Gard (100% shiraz).
Several generations of customers followed each other and still remain loyal.
Our estate’s motto is: AUSPICE CLARA MANISSY STELLA, which means : under the protection of the bright star of Manissy.
We hope that star will twinkle above our estate for a long time!
