Under the watchful eye of Provence’s giant, Mont Ventoux, the Lou Fréjau estate is located south of the fabulous ancient city of Orange, at the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard. Nestled in the centre of southern Provence, you will find here a true postcard of the southern Rhône Valley, with its fields of vines, olive trees, and the scents of the garrigue.
The story of our family estate does not truly begin in 1982, when Serge and Christiane Chastan, my parents, founded it. Nor does it begin when they settled into an old farmhouse built from rounded pebbles, also known as FREJAU in the Provençal dialect — pebbles that give our soils their richness and distinctive character.
My father is the son and grandson of farmers, as we affectionately say back home! My mother is no exception either, as her grandfather, an Italian immigrant who arrived in the mid-1940s, also found himself immersed in the cauldron of Dionysus upon settling directly in the Châteauneuf vineyard. As you may have gathered, I, Julien, fifth generation of passionate winemakers, am the guardian of a rich past and a future steeped in tradition.
Alone, as a couple, or in a group, come and step through the doors of our cellar to discover our natural wines born from family traditions. We will be delighted to share a moment of warmth and conviviality with you — over a simple tasting, or even, for the most curious, during a guided tour! Discover our wine estate in Orange.Sonnet 4.6
